The Very First Step to Fashion Industry
Well well well...... finally I am updating The Listener. Sorry for letting all of my readers wait for that long. (How many readers I wonder?!) And here I'm writing in English. (Oh yeah special thanks to my coffeemate, Laikwan) However, I guess this post is not inspiring at all. Anyway, I am just writing for fun and I am not a writer seriously so why bother......
This morning I woke up at 7:15am, a time that I was supposed to be sleeping and dreaming like heaven during my last summer vacation in life. But I gotta wake up because of an interview. That's for summer part-time sales at Bottega Veneta. (Oh come on! BV leather handbag is one of the dream items on my fashion wishlist) Since I have no fxxking money for my Europe graduation trip, something meaningful and practical to fill my summer gap will be perfect. So I guess working for a fashion brand will be something nice to try. But of course I don't feel the same after the interview especially I gotta give tutorials to kids for 3-4 times a week. Anyway just a month STANDING at Lee Gardens. Not too bad I guess.
Throughout the whole interview process, there were a few things that impressed me.
1) Gucci Group Office
BV belongs to Gucci Group and also under the PPR French Multinational. Other brands include YSL, Stella McCartney, Balenciaga, etc. So all of them are luxury brands of course and have you ever thought about how should a luxury brand office look like? In my perception the colors I could think of about luxury brands were dark colors mostly like dark brown, wine red, forest green representing elegance and high price. Yet please forgive me to say that the entrance of the office was really interesting that it's like protective coloration and no reception desk there. (guess it's not the main entrance) And what you could find were white narrow passage with some brand name products posters/ photos with sexy models on one side. The floor was carpeted in grey as I can remember. It's just a normal office without demonstrating its elegance and luxuriousness but simply the same as an accounting firm. Seriously that disappointed me a bit as I thought the floor should be marble stone and a large well polished wooden director desk in the meeting room with tissue cases made in leather. Also at least some products displayed around office and paintings as well to show the unique style and taste. But instead the tissue cases were only paper ones with words "Hotelo" on them and a white desk with a projector over your head. Not sure if every part of it is the same or I am just judging the whole office by looking at one small corner. But one thing I can be sure is the head office of the group should be like what I imagined or not something like in Hong Kong office.
2) Number of Interviews
I am just applying for a summer sales position at BV through my university working until 15 July this year. So I guess you can imagine how unimportant I am to the company. Yet still a mock interview was required when applying for the position which was held in my campus and me being interviewed by a staff. Then after this challenge the staff decided to let me progress to the first and second interviews organized by Gucci Group. Yup you didn't get me wrong and there were really TWO interviews after the mock. Though the interviews were not difficult and obviously they were not looking for special talented people but still. So actually you can see how serious they made it like.
3) The Last Interviewer
The last person interviewed me was the director of store operations. What could really impress me of course was her clothing. It's nothing formal, nothing really elegant, and nothing really delicate. What she wore was a Balenciaga tee and bottom was skinny jeans but not sure which brand. Belt was yellowish brown crocodile skin one if I didn't mix up crocodile and snack skins. What a shame I couldn't see her high heels. And I really really like her golden ear rings which were similar to the ball-shaped disco lights usually placed at the centre of dancing pools. With such a casual and stylish outfit, her short hair and honey brown skin color were perfect touches adding to the overall look. During the interview, she was staring me with her big brown shadowed eyes while explaining how precious was the opportunity for me to learn about store operations. She talked in Cantonese mixed with foreign-accented English. Very interesting that she paused after each sentence longer than my response time and kept staring at me as if she wanted to threaten how serious this position actually was. For sure I was not scared at all but rather in return I responded in foreign-accented English even what I answered were only "no problem", "okay", "yup" and "yea". (Oh women)
Anyway I passed all the interviews and all of you are welcome to the BV branch at Lee Gardens to check if I shirk or what. As I said this post is not inspiring at all. (Don't blame me plz :S) So that's all and good night everyone :D Hope BOTTEGA VENETA rocksssssssssssssssssssssss! yeah!!
